Heritage & Expertise
Kiton, Cared For by Alex's Team
Founded in Naples in 1968 by Ciro Paone, Kiton is the standard-bearer of Neapolitan hand-tailoring. Its garments are sewn almost entirely by hand by master seamstresses — the famed "mani di fata," or fairy hands — and the house is celebrated for the soft spalla camicia shoulder, hand-rolled lapels, and the rarest fabrics on earth, including its own super-fine vicuña and 150s-and-finer wools.
Because a Kiton coat is built from hundreds of hand stitches and unfused, lightly structured canvas, the wrong solvent, a machine press, or excessive heat can flatten the shoulder, glaze the cloth, and permanently destroy the hand-feel that defines the garment. Alex's specializes in exactly this kind of soft, hand-tailored construction — cleaned gently and finished by hand, never crushed.
Specialist Care
How Alex's Cares for Kiton
Every Kiton piece is assessed by fabric and construction on arrival, cleaned with a method matched to its exact cloth, and pressed entirely by hand to preserve the soft shoulder, hand-rolled lapel, and natural drape.
Spalla camicia shoulder
Kiton's signature soft, shirt-style shoulder is shaped by hand, not padding. We hand-press it over a tailor's ham so the natural roll and unstructured line are preserved — never flattened by a machine press.
Hand-rolled lapels
The gentle, three-dimensional belly of a Kiton lapel is rolled and stitched by hand. We finish it by hand to keep that soft curl, avoiding the hard, glassy crease a hot flat iron would leave.
Unfused hand-canvassed construction
A Kiton coat is built on a floating, hand-stitched canvas rather than fused glue. We clean gently and avoid the high heat and solvents that delaminate or stiffen the chest, keeping the coat supple and alive.
Vicuña and super-fine wools
Kiton works the world's rarest fibers, including vicuña — one of the finest fibers on earth at roughly 12 microns — and its 150s-plus wools, all of which scorch and felt under heat. Each is cleaned by its specific fiber needs to protect color, loft, and the cloth's natural hand.
Hand-finished trousers and details
Hand-set waistbands, side-adjusters, and surgeon's cuffs are pressed individually by hand so seams stay sharp, working buttonholes stay intact, and the crease falls exactly where the tailor intended.

Common Questions
Kiton Garment Care FAQ
Can you dry clean a Kiton suit without ruining the soft Neapolitan shoulder?
Yes. Kiton's spalla camicia shoulder and hand-rolled lapels are built from unfused, hand-stitched construction that a standard machine press will flatten permanently. Alex's cleans each piece with a fabric-specific method and presses it entirely by hand over a tailor's ham, so the soft shoulder, lapel roll, and natural drape are preserved exactly as the Neapolitan tailors made them.
Do you offer door-to-door pickup for Kiton in San Francisco?
Yes — Alex's provides white-glove, door-to-door valet service for Kiton tailoring throughout San Francisco and the Bay Area, and no drop-off. We collect from your front door, doorman, or estate manager and return your suits and sport coats cleaned, hand-pressed, and ready to wear. Simply text 415-338-9318 to schedule a pickup.
How should a Kiton sport coat or vicuña piece be cleaned to protect such rare cloth?
Kiton uses the finest fibers made — including its own vicuña, one of the rarest and finest fibers on earth, and 150s-plus wools — which scorch, glaze, and felt under the high heat and harsh solvents of ordinary cleaning. Alex's cleans by the exact fiber, never a one-size solvent, and hand-finishes at controlled temperatures to protect the loft, color, and hand-feel. We recommend cleaning only when truly needed; between cleanings, brush and air the garment and rest it on a broad wooden hanger.
