Heritage & Expertise
Brioni, Cared For by Alex's Team
Founded in Rome in 1945 by tailor Nazareno Fonticoli and entrepreneur Gaetano Savini, Brioni built the modern luxury suit — it staged the first men's runway show in modern fashion history in 1952 and is celebrated for fully hand-canvassed Roman tailoring: the structured, clean-lined Roman (Continental) shoulder with its roped sleeve head, a sculpted chest, and a suppressed waist, each suit assembled over many hours by trained tailors working ultra-fine cloths such as Super 180s wools.
A full floating canvas is hand-stitched, never glued, so it molds to the wearer over time. Aggressive heat, harsh solvents, or careless pressing can shrink that canvas, flatten a hand-rolled lapel, or break down the crisp Roman shoulder and its roped sleeve head — damage that is effectively permanent. Caring for exactly this construction is what Alex's has specialized in since 1984.
Specialist Care
How Alex's Cares for Brioni
Every Brioni piece is inspected, spot-treated, and gently cleaned by hand, then hand-pressed on a tailor's ham to preserve the canvas, the lapel roll, and the structured Roman shoulder line.
Full hand-canvassed construction
Brioni's floating canvas is stitched, not fused. We use a gentle, low-residue process and never the high heat that shrinks canvas or causes the bubbling that ruins a jacket front.
Hand-rolled lapel
The soft, rounded belly of a Brioni lapel is shaped by hand, not pressed flat. We finish lapels over a tailor's ham so the roll stays three-dimensional rather than collapsing into a hard crease.
The Roman shoulder
Brioni's structured, clean-lined Roman shoulder — straight across, lightly padded, and finished with a roped sleeve head — is the signature of its Continental cut. We hand-press the shoulder and sleeve head so it keeps that crisp line and roll, and never picks up shine or a flattened edge.
Super 180s and finest cloths
Brioni works in ultra-fine Super 180s wools and, in its finest commissions, the rarest fibers such as vicuña — among the most precious in the world. These delicate, high-twist yarns are cleaned with care calibrated to the cloth, protecting both luster and hand.
Hand-finished details
Pick-stitched edges, working surgeon's cuffs, and hand-set linings are checked on every visit. We press around them rather than over them, and re-secure any loose hand-stitching before the piece comes home.

Common Questions
Brioni Garment Care FAQ
How should a Brioni suit be cleaned without ruining the canvas?
A Brioni suit should be dry cleaned only as often as truly needed, by hand, with a gentle low-heat process — never the high-temperature pressing that shrinks its full floating canvas or flattens the hand-rolled lapel and the structured Roman shoulder. Between cleanings, brushing, airing, and steaming keep it fresh. Alex's hand-treats and hand-presses each Brioni piece on a tailor's ham to protect the construction and the roped sleeve head.
Do you pick up Brioni suits door-to-door in San Francisco?
Yes. Alex's Dry Cleaning Valet is door-to-door across San Francisco and the Bay Area — we collect your Brioni suits and sport coats from your home or office and deliver them back hand-finished. Simply text 415-338-9318 to schedule a pickup.
Can you clean a Brioni jacket made with vicuña or Super 180s wool?
Yes. We regularly care for Brioni's finest cloths, including ultra-fine Super 180s wools and rare vicuña — one of the world's most precious natural fibers. We calibrate the cleaning to the specific cloth to protect its luster, drape, and soft hand, and hand-press to preserve the structured tailoring rather than glaze the surface.
